Learn with the best The tutor for this course is award-winning metal clay artist Julia Rai. Julia holds the highest metal clay credential in the world, the Masters Registry IV. She was the first person in the world to achieve this level and is one of only two Level IV Masters in the world. She is certified in PMC from Rio Grande and a Senior Art Clay Instructor.
She was a Saul Bell Design Award finalist in 2010 and has won awards for her work in the UK and Internationally. She has also had work published in a number of books and magazines.
Course summary This is a four day course, running from Thursday 20 Sept 2012 to Sunday 23 Sept 2012 in Eastbourne, East Sussex, and is taught by Julia Rai, a metal clay artist and educator with an international reputation, and the first person ever to reach level IV of the prestigious Metal Clay Masters Registry programme [see Tutor Profiles].
What you will learn on this course Following the curriculum outlined by Aida Chemicals (the manufacturers of the Art Clay brand of silver 'clay'), you will complete a number of advanced projects during this intense four-day course. The course builds on the skills you gained at Level 1 and introduces more techniques. On this fast-paced course, you'll learn how to add gold to your work using Keum Boo and gold paste, working with glass and bezel-setting delicate stones.
Who is this course suitable for? Students taking this course must have gained, or be due to gain, their Art Clay Certification at Level 1 at least six months before the start date of this course.
Are materials included? Yes, materials to complete your projects are included in the course fee. Please note that as this course is planned and costed a year in advance, a silver increase surcharge will be payable at the start of the course if the retail price of Art Clay rises between the date of booking, and the start date of the course. Important Please note that the Art Clay Guild specifies that you must have a gap of at least SIX MONTHS between your level 1 and level 2 Art Clay Certification courses. If there is less than six months between your two courses, your level 2 documents will not be valid!
Post-course work Once you have successfully completed the projects on the course, you will be required to complete three further certification pieces to exact specifications in your own time. If you wish to receive your Certification so that you can teach the Art Clay courses, these must be submitted within 60 days of completing the course, together with proof that you own a kiln.
